PCBs / Hazardous Materials Removal
Polychlorinated Biphenyl(s) or PCBs were domestically manufactured from 1929 to 1979 (when production was banned). PCBs were used in hundreds of commercial and industrial applications including but not limited to electrical and hydraulic equipment; plasticizers in paints, plastics and rubber products; pigments and dyes. Products that may contain PCBs include,
Fluorescent light ballasts
Transformers and capacitors
Caulking
Old electrical devices and appliances
Oil used in motors and hydraulic systems
Cable and thermal insulation materials
Adhesives and tapes
Oil based paints
PCBs can have adverse health effects on the immune system and nervous system, while also being linked to cancer. PCBs are becoming a “hot” environmental issue and many building owners are addressing this concern through testing and abatement to ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance. GEM Environmental employees are trained in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(e), (p) & (q) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER). Our 30 + years in the environmental field allows us to effectively remediate PCBs or any other hazardous materials that require attention. Whether it is PCBs, mercury, volatile and nonvolatile organic compounds, lead, or acids, the GEM Environmental team can remediate, containerize and provide proper disposal for the hazardous material(s) of concern.
